One of the things I love doing is watch series. I like different kind of series, but I do have a special place in my heart for detective/cop/criminal series such as Elementary, Criminal Minds, Castle and NCIS. But I also watch other series. More about those another time, though. This post is about finding clues. That's what I love about those series, Finding clues and trying to figure out what made people what they are.
But I also read books, or listen to books. My first favourite writer was Astrid Lindgren, who wrote kids stories with a funny twist and a deeper meaning; Pippi Longstocking was and will always be one of my role models, as well as the first clue finder in my life; after that it was Enid Blyton who wrote the Famous Five books. I absolutely loved those books, and I dreamt of being part of the group. I think that's where my love for detective stories was born. Next I discovered Agatha Christie. I can't even begin to tell you how much I still love her books, and the way she wrote. The detailing seem so simple, but is so complex that you struggle in trying to figure out who the killer really is. You might have some ideas, but you can never be sure until the reveal at the end. And yet, all the clues were dealt to you, slowly, carefully, sneaky, openly, hidden. In every way possible. During all this she also managed to create fascinating characters with clear and specific personalities, and sub plots that all had a part of the bigger picture.
I think reading Agatha Christie gave birth to my thoughts of writing. It was always there, it just became a conscious idea at that time.
I still read her books. I have them all on my Kindle. Well, all but 4-5 of them. I am reading them in order, main character sorted. I have already read all the Miss Marple books, Tommy and Tuppence, and a few others. Next up is Monsieur Hercule Poirot. And I can't wait to dig into them!
Speaking of favourite writers, there's one called Mike Wells, who is an independent self-published writer who writes thrilling and intriguing books. You can look him up on his website, or find him on Twitter. I recommend him a lot if you want to read something that is hard to put down.
Right, I'm going back to watching another episode of Elementary. I'm at the end of season 2.

My favorite authors are Jack Higgins and Mary Higgins Clark (not related). Jack Higgins writes more about spies, but I love his books and he has LOTS of them. Mary Higgins Clark writes fun everyday people mysteries and now her daughter writes too. It's been a while since I've been able to ready a book myself. Right now I read with my 1st grader that reads at a 4th grade level, so she reads to me or I read to her, so I can make sure she understands what she's reading. Someday I'll get back to my reading list!
